Space-time clustering of childhood leukaemia cases in Karachi, Pakistan.

چکیده
T he incidence rate of childhood leukaemia varies internationally (about 4–40/10 per year) with the lowest rates being recorded in black African children. The data from population based studies on the incidence of childhood leukaemia in South Asia, including Pakistan, are lacking. The development of leukaemia has been considered as an infectious process. However, the epidemiological evidence for the existence of childhood leukaemia virus has been regarded as naive. Also, the question whether childhood leukaemias have a tendency to occur in cluster remains unanswered. We conducted this study to determine if clustering of cases of childhood leukaemia at diagnosis in time and time and space if observed was more common than could be expected.

متن کاملDistribution of acute leukaemia in time and space. Studies in New Zealand.
The distribution of leukaemia in time and space was examined by tracing the date of onset and the place of residence in all cases of childhood leukaemia and of acute leukaemia in adults, totalling 1,003 cases, which occurred in New Zealand during the 12 years from 1953 to 1964.Significant seasonal variations in the onset were found in adults but not in children. Time-space clustering did not oc...

Background Classification of cancer subtypes by means of microarray signatures is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore as a potential to transform pathological diagnosis nonetheless, measurement of Indicator genes in routine practice appears to be arduous. In a preceding published study, we utilized real-time PCR measurement of Indicator genes in acute lymphoid leukaemia (ALL) and acute m...

متن کاملThe Current State of Poison Control Centers in Pakistan and the Need for Capacity Building
Background: Chemical exposure is a major health problem globally. Poison control centers (PCCs) play a leading role both in developed and developing countries in the prevention and control of poisonous chemical exposures. In this study, we aimed to assess the current state of PCCs in Pakistan and highlight capacity building needs in these centers. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of the two re...
